Ovarian Cancer Expo

Color of Teal will be hosting New York City's 1st Ovarian Cancer Expo on Saturday, September 29, 2012!

The Ovarian Cancer Expo will take place in the Gold Ballroom in the Hotel Pennsylvania, 401 Seventh Avenue, New York, New York . An expo of this caliber has never been held in New York City. Of all the gynecologic cancers women face, ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death. Due to vague symptoms, ovarian cancer is hard to detect and only 1 out of 4 women will survive the disease. Color of Teal's purpose is to educate women on how to open a dialogue with their gynecologist, the warning symptoms of ovarian cancer, and advise them of various methods of treatment and available care.  This event was created after realizing the lack of education and awareness available for ovarian cancer and other gynecologic cancers.

This expo is a one-day event, with a full day lineup that will keep you occupied all day! The morning portion of the expo will be provided with free health screenings as well as a vendors marketplace.  The afternoon portion of the expo will give way to the Ovarian Cancer Seminar which will include reputable doctors from the New York City area, testimonies from ovarian cancer survivors, and live entertainment. The Ovarian Cancer Expo will finally conclude with its "Teal Affair Fashion Show".  Participants in the expo will include victims, survivors, supporters, family members, and friends of those directly affected by ovarian cancer and other gynecologic cancers.  Proceeds from this event will go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Teal Care Co-Pay Program

Although it has been a while since I last wrote on this blog, the staff of Color of Teal have been working very hard to be of assistance to you.

After meeting a lot of women who have encountered gynecologic cancer (personally, through a family member, or friend), they all expressed their concerns with the lack of available financial assistance.  Although many insurance carriers either provide free, or low cost, gynecology services, some may encounter that it may be expensive to visit a specialist for follow up treatment, care, or medication.

Since you talked, we listened.

Effective on April 1, 2012, Color of Teal will launch its new program called the Teal Care Co-Pay Assistance program.  The Teal Care Co-Pay Program was built especially for insured, low income, women.  Depending on funding availability, the program will provide financial assistance to women who need further evaluations, radiology screening, additional testing, and medication.  The patient would fill out an application and submit it to our patient advisor.  Based upon your eligibility, the funding will be provided to your physician or pharmacist, without any cost to you.

As always, Color of Teal is here to bring awareness to women, provide assistance, and support the efforts towards finding a cure.  By becoming more aware of your medical status at an earlier stage, it can possibly assist in reducing the number of fatalities.

Color of Teal loves you.

Every Cloud Has A Silver Lining

In preparation of launching the Color of Teal’s website, I can’t stop thinking about the true reason why I wanted to advocate for ovarian cancer…my mom.  Without my mom losing her life to ovarian cancer, I wouldn’t truly know how to relate to the thousands of women who may have struggled, or is currently struggling, with this disease; I wouldn’t know how to show support to the families and provide comfort to them; but lastly, I wouldn’t be able to tell these ladies that there is hope for surviving.

It saddens me at the mere thought of a lot of women being misdiagnosed or left to die without proper treatment.  LADIES, I HEAR YOUR CRIES AND I AM DEDICATING ALL OF ME TO HELP YOU!  I want to give comfort in the lives of women I meet, I want to let them know that it’s not okay that you are having pains; I want to let them know that although your loved one is gone, there is still hope for living…

Color of Teal: Let’s Cure Our Ladies Ovaries through Research of Teaching Educational Awareness and Leadership.

In September, 2012, we will host our 1st Annual Color of Teal Ovarian Cancer Expo.  We will provide an informative workshop with a panel of gynecologists and gynecologic oncologists so you can ask them any question you may have.  It will be a day filled with activities for you who need STREGNTH, for you who provides SUPPORT, and for you who has SURVIVED!

I love you ladies and my journey is not going to stop here.  There is much more in store…

It’s the color of Strength, it’s the color of life; it’s the Color of Teal.
